ISWI Newsletter - Vol.6 No.027
06 March 2014

Dear ISWI Participant:

The attached 5-page article about ISWI's SID Monitor is a "must read". I have been the editor of this newsletter since 2009 and during this time I have sent out more than 500 newsletter issues. This article is easily the best one during my tenure so far as editor.

Not only is this article beautifully crafted as a newsletter-ready report, the contents of this article perfectly captures the spirit of ISWI. The SID Monitor is not just a story about achieving some results in the field of space weather science -- it is also a story about how to convey the excitement, the wonder, the beauty, the relevance, the joy, and the fun, of space weather science to people between the ages of 15 and 25.

All over the world these young people are not quite sure of what to do with their lives. If experiencing some hands-on data acquisition and PC-based data analysis triggers a chain reaction of thoughts in their minds so that they seriously start to consider pursuing a career in space science or space technology, then this is precisely one of the things that ISWI hopes to achieve over the long run.

"Long-Term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities" is something we hear a lot in the halls of the United Nations. This lofty agenda surely should include nurturing the next generation of scientists and engineers on the ground. Ignite their sense of imagination, romance, and adventure -- I think they will take care of the rest.

[Debbie: Thanks for a superb article. It is the new benchmark for this newsletter.]

Cordially yours,
George Maeda
Editor of ISWI Newsletter
