ISWI Newsletter - Vol.4 No.68
17 June 2012

Dear ISWI Participant:

I write the following on behalf of Prof. K. Yumoto, Director of the new International Center for Space Weather Science and Education, which was formerly known as the Space Environment Research Center (SERC).

Pursuant to the "Abuja ISWI Resolution" (see ISWI Newsletter, Volume 3, Number 101, which is archived at this site), Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, established the "International Center for Space Weather Science and Education" (abbreviated as "ICSWSE" but pronounced "iku-sei") on 01 April 2012. This new space weather center is now seeking a suitable logo (symbol).

Any person from any country is eligible to submit a logo for ICSWSE. The person submitting the best design will receive 200 United States dollars before 31 December 2012. But your design must be submitted before 24:00 UT on 31 August 2012. Please submit as pdf -- but if yours is the winning design, you will be asked to furnish a high-resolution version. For design reference, the old logo for SERC is attached as pdf; this logo was also secured through a design competition. Your ICSWSE design must be 100% original DO NOT CUT AND PASTE IMAGES FROM EXISTING SOURCES ON THE INTERNET, or anywhere else.

The Logo Selection Committee is the Staff of ICSWSE. Their decision is final and cannot be contested by anyone. Do not enter the contest if you cannot agree to this rule.

Please send your pdf to this email address: sercstaff@serc.kyushu-u.ac.jp. Your email subject line should be <Logo for ICSWSE Logo Contest from YOUR NAME/YOUR COUNTRY>. Please provide contact info so that we can contact you if your design is selected as the best.

The Logo Selection Committee strongly encourages entries from developing nations and nations in transition because a key function of ICSWSE is to support these nations in all their efforts to become more active in space weather research activities and education activities. Note that the emphasis of ISWI and ICSWSE is on "research and education aspects of space weather" -- not on the operational aspects of space weather.

.
Happy Father's Day,
