ISWI Newsletter - Vol.3 No.29
14 March 2011

Dear ISWI Participant:

Last week, on March 8, the "SERC/MO Sub Center" was formally inaugurated with an Opening Ceremony at MO (Manila Observatory). In attendance were Prof. Yumoto, some staff of SERC, officials from MO, officials from Kyushu University, representatives of MAGDAS stations throughout the Philippines (there are six such stations), and some members of the press.

The first page of the attached pdf shows an article that appeared in the The Daily Manila Shimbun a Japanese-language newspaper based in Manila. It describes the mission of the Sub Center. Basically, the Sub Center will support the MAGDAS Network in the Philippines. This network is shown on page 2 of the attached pdf.

The remaining four pages are photos taken during the Opening Ceremony (all photos courtesy of Dr Abe and Dr Ikeda, both with SERC staff).

Prof. Yumoto (publisher of this newsletter) would like to give special thanks to Ma. Antonia Loyzaga (Executive Director of MO) and the representatives of each MAGDAS station in the Philippines: Dr Matalang, Tuguegarao; Dr Otadoy, Cebu; Commodore Ho and Mr Algaba, Muntinlupa; Dr Paulino, Legazpi; Dr Lo, Cagayan de Oro; Davao, Father McNamara.

Tomorrow I will send out an 18-page document describing Philippine's participation in IGY. It is 4.5 MB in size so I do not attach it now.

Devotedly yours,
George Maeda
