The workshop continues the series of meetings organized since 2008 and workshop will focus on observational and modeling studies of the influences of solar radiation (SR) and energetic particle precipitation (EPP) on the atmosphere and climate. The workshop format includes plenary sessions with both invited and contributed talks, as well as poster sessions.

  2. Solar photon and particle effects on the stratosphere and above
  3. Dynamical processes influencing the coupling of altitude regions
  4. Solar and particle effects on the troposphere and climate system including atmosphere and
    ocean-atmosphere coupling
  5. Tools for assessing solar and precipitating particle influences, including measurements, models, and techniques

Abstract submission for contributed presentations opens 1 March 2018.

Self-nominations of invited presentations are due by 16 March 2018.
In addition to contributed talks and posters, we solicit ‘self-nominated’ invited talks on HEPPA-SOLARIS related work that is new, timely, creative and/or controversial. To be considered for an invited talk, please submit an abstract for a contributed talk, and also send a summary of your work to Dr. Scott Bailey (baileys[at]vt.edu) before 16 March 2018. We encourage self-nominations from scientists at all levels, from students to senior scientists.

Self-nominations will be reviewed by the HEPPA-SOLARIS Science Organizing Committee, and all who submit self-nominations will be notified of the decision by 15 April. If your work is chosen for an invited talk, you will be sent an official invitation and your contributed abstract will be converted to an invited abstract.

Support for early career scientists: A limited amount of funding is available for students and scientists in need of assistance. More information can be found (here)

The workshop is hosted by the Center for Space Sciences and Engineering at Virginia Tech and will be held at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. Information regarding accommodation, travel, student support, abstract submission and registration can be found on Workshop website.
